This project is a collaboration between the University of Washington and research institutions in Thailand to provide online access to qualitative and quantitative research data on Thailand to multiple research communities, in both English and Thai languages. A scalable, extensible and interoperative set of web resources that rely on standard web applications is the end product of a project plan consisting of three components: 1) development of best practices for digital archiving of multiple-format research data, including rights and cultural property management; 2) metadata and system design; 3) surveying, aggregating, normalizing and cataloging data for control by a central registry at the University of Washington (UW).
The Sirindhorn Anthropology Center is a leader in the field of Anthropological research and documentation: Paritta Chalermpow Koanantakool, Director, SAC, earned her PhD in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University. She has been a Board member of the Foundation for the Promotion of Social Sciences and Humanities Textbooks Project, Thailand, and Coordinator of the master's program in anthropology, Thammasat University.
IPSR is one of the top population research and training centers in Asia, ranked as the premier social science research institute in Thailand in 2006 by Thailand's Office of the Higher Education Commission. Sureeporn Punpuing, Associate Prof. and Director, IPSR , has a Ph.D. in Resource Management and Environmental Sciences, from the Center for Resource and Environmental Studies, the Australian National University. She has worked as Population Affairs Officer at the United Nations and has worked closely with Professor Sara Curran for many years.
